Special Project: ACI Worldwide Payments Unleashed Event

UI Asset Design for ACI Worldwide Event

BY JEFF SCHADER

The Skins Factory was brought in once again by our longtime client, ACI Worldwide, to design user interface assets for their 50th anniversary celebration promotional payments video to be unveiled at their Payments Unleashed event in New York City.

Marking five decades of payments innovation and leadership, ACI entrusted our team to create a series of bespoke visual assets featured in a special event video commemorating this milestone. Below, you’ll find the final designs alongside multiple concept variations we developed to provide our client with a diverse range of creative directions to select from. Our relationship with ACI Worldwide started back in 2017, when The Skins Factory was tasked to redesign their Universal Banker application, where over 150 screens were redesigned by our design team.

Our team received a script for a video presentation that detailed the various user interface (UI) assets to be featured throughout the piece. The concept centered around a graduating student using ACI’s payment systems, showcasing the seamless, intuitive experience that ACI is known for. From web and mobile applications to smartwatch interfaces, our team designed a suite of forward-thinking UI concepts that incorporated sleek, glassmorphic design elements and various colorways.

We designed a cohesive glass-effect interface, complemented by unique background imagery for each presentation to give every concept its own personality. Many of the background imagery was created using Midjourney, the generative AI art application and then processed in Adobe Photoshop for color correction, image modification, and the inclusion of additional assets to the images. The project design was worked on by our outstanding Senior Designer, Javier & myself.

Scene 1: Morning Wake-Up Call

Lock Screen Notification UI for Late Bill Payment + Payment Success with Special Offer

Without direct access to the final video during the design phase, our team took a proactive approach - developing an extensive set of lock screen colorways to cover a variety of moods and lighting scenarios. This gave ACI and the video production team the freedom to choose the colorway that best complimented the final footage and creative direction.

Scene 2: Security Alert

Samsung Watch UI for Suspicious Charge + Denial of Payment

To draw immediate attention to critical alerts, we introduced an animated outer ring of text that slowly rotates in a clockwise motion, reinforcing the sense of urgency. The buttons were enhanced with subtle glassmorphic effects, adding depth and a modern, tactile aesthetic to the alert interface.

Scene 3: Deferred Student Loan Payment

Tuition Payment Kiosk UI + Watch UI Design

We dedicated significant time to this scene, generating a range of background images using the generative AI art tool Midjourney, then refining them in Adobe Photoshop. The panels feature glassmorphic effects, while the user interface was designed to resemble a modern touchscreen/POS system. Each of the background artwork represents a distinct university design aesthetic while we created complementary colorways for the various design comps.

Scene 4: Identity Verification

Identification Upload, Biometric Scan & Mobile Payment Screens

We designed the mobile user interface for this sequence of screens. In this scene, the user is prompted to upload her driver’s license, followed by completing a biometric scan for identity verification. Once successfully authenticated, she’s directed to the ACI Worldwide payment center, where she can review her transaction details and view her payment receipt through a clean, intuitive interface.

Scene 5: Biometric Login + Payment Center

Iris Identification and Payment Center Web Application Screens

This was another scene our team devoted significant time to refining, producing numerous design comps in both light and dark modes. Staying true to the glassmorphic UI panel aesthetic, we designed two variations of the main login panel. Each was paired with custom generative AI artwork created in Midjourney to enrich the background environment. The concept behind the imagery was to envision futuristic banking centers expressed through a brutalist architectural style.

We carried this visual design language over to the ACI Payment Center screens, creating two background variations for each mode. Below, you’ll find our design comps. Click an image to view larger.

Scene 6: Stablecoin Payment

Email, qr code scan screen, and a payment center web app screen design

We began by designing a mock insurance company complete with a name and logo — called Arbor Valley. In this scene, the user receives an email notification that her health insurance payment is due. After designing the email interface, we created a QR code screen to complete the payment flow. The final two screens showcase the white-labeled Payment Center and the Payment Success confirmation screens.

Scene 7: B2B Disbursement

Web App Payment Design

The final scene depicts the user receiving a payment notification for her design work. With a single tap, she accepts the payment and watches her account balance update in real time. As with several other scenes, we provided ACI Worldwide with multiple design options. One version features brutalist-styled banking centers in the background, creating a realistic, grounded aesthetic when paired with the glassmorphic panels. The alternate version incorporates playful piggy banks, a thematic callback to a previous ACI project. Both sets of backgrounds were generated using Midjourney.
